Why does choosing a stroller get so emotional?
I have never witnessed more heated discussions than those over choosing a stroller.
Moms across the world seem to hold this as dear to their hearts as men do their cars. In a further parallel with men and their cars, every mom believes that her stroller is the best one.
And it probably is the best – for her. While chatting on various forums, I have been often been dragged into very subjective arguments, laced with emotional language and over-the-top personal comments. Sentences like “Who on earth are you to give your comments about strollers?” and arguments like “If this miserable small-wheeled stroller is good enough for Victoria Beckham, then it’s good enough for every other mom on the planet”. This drives me nuts! Keep calm, moms. You’re all right to some extent.
Choosing a stroller or a man – tackle it the same way
The thing is that there’s no such thing as an ideal stroller. Just as there’s no ideal car or ideal man. Hmm. I’d go even further and compare a stroller to the man in your life: when you’ve got one, you have to love it (or him) in spite of the slight imperfections.
Because choosing a stroller (or a man) is such a hassle 🙂 And, worst of all, sometimes you just can’t have a real life “date” with it. Just as with men, sometimes you have to make your choice online 🙂 Not everyone will have the chance to try the stroller out in-store first.
Dating your ideal jogging stroller – how to find a true match
Don’t take all of this too seriously – I’m just trying to keep you entertained with this boring but vital topic. Of course, if you’re not happy with your stroller, you can always take it back or switch to a better model. Unlike with a husband.
So how can you make the best decision when choosing a stroller?
1. Ignore the price tag and brand
In my humble opinion (as a jogging stroller freak), don’t let the price tag be the main thing that influences you. Just as with searching for a husband, don’t hone in on only the rich handsome guys. Money and a pretty face are not the only things you’ll have to live with. What about personality? And with a stroller, it’s all about performance and daily usage.
2. Big is beautiful
Oh yeah. Not only is it super-comfortable for your child, it will also last longer (so your kiddo won’t outgrow your stroller by the age of two) and allow you to load it up with all the stuff that moms need to take with them. Add the possibility of squeezing a full grocery bag into your stroller… Life saver 🙂
3. Match your stroller to your needs
Do you need a reliable guy to go to all lengths with you? Like running, skating, hiking, and making navigating the city easy and safe? I think all women dream of a guy like this. So before buying a small-wheeled, plastic, flimsy stroller hoping to jog with it – think twice.
For those of you who are still in doubt: why a jogging stroller?
A jogging stroller is a life-changing purchase
The freedom that a good stroller gives parents can’t be underestimated. A jogging stroller enables you to spend lots of time with your child and at the same time continue leading your usual active life. I knew that I could stay sporty and adventurous while being a mom 24/7.
A proper jogging stroller not only allows you to keep doing your usual running or walking, but it’s also like a little home for your baby. You can take your child with you for a much longer time, without messing up your baby’s eating and sleeping routine. When you can go almost anywhere with your child, it changes your life from being stuck-at-home to being totally dynamic and mobile.
Big wheels help you lose weight
To lose weight, you have to speed up and maintain this tempo for longer than 20 minutes – only then will you start to burn calories. It’s called the anaerobic effect – one which causes weight loss. A stroller’s big wheels make it possible to walk faster with little effort. Exhausting yourself by pushing a heavy stroller won’t make you slim. But with a proper jogging stroller, you can get to a distant supermarket at a good jogging speed and return home, stocked up, with a happy child and your training done.
It’s a riding home for your child
Some strollers are made for lying in your car trunk (they are small and that’s the only good thing about them).
With a decent jogging stroller (since you can go anywhere without sacrificing your child’s comfort), it is possible to stay outdoors for the day. After your child has had their daily nap, you can go to a playground straight away without needing to rush back home. Your child will eat, play and live in the stroller – there’s an extra hour spared to spend in the fresh air.
So treat choosing a jogging stroller like choosing your partner – think twice and don’t be over-emotional.
