Healthy Food for Kids and Moms On The Go
Simple fresh food taken with you saves plenty of time and makes an entire day possible: without a break outdoors, with no need to rush in search of a place to feed a hungry child and yourself.
I counted – it takes 30 minutes to prepare and pack simple food that saves you much time, nerves and money when you’re outdoors. Make your day out.
Recipes for easy take-away meals for summer (I called them 2 minutes recipes)
Summer is the best time to choose light and healthy food. In a hot day it’s difficult to eat heavy and hot dishes. You don’t have to. The Ayurveda says: eat hot in the cold time and cold in the hot time.
The main idea is to make a healthy food that suits both moms and kids.
Perhaps, the preparation time won’t be exactly two minutes, but allow you to do other things while the food is being prepared (potatoes don’t need your supervision while baking or boiling).
My summer favorites are sandwiches and veggies, as well as a poultry and patties (Please click on pictures to read the recipe)
Smashed Chickpea and Avocado Salad Sandwich
Spinach and Cheese Twice Backed Potato
Avocado Grilled Cheese Patties
Don’t close your day for food
I heard so many times from my friends in the middle of a beautiful day on the beach – that they needed to go home, because they had taken no food for the kids.
Imagine the hassle of packing beach stuff, walking home, cooking food, feeding the kids, washing stuff, dressing the kids back and walking again back – they never come back.
A plate of spaghetti made them go – hmm, I better take these spaghetti with me.
The easy calculation tells me that 10 minutes of cooking and 5 minutes of packing of cheese spaghetti into a food thermos save me 3-4 hours of continued staying on the beach.
Packing Take Away Food
A main dish I pack to the rectangular hermetic plastic food container – since it’s summer it’s okay the food is cold. Apart from the main dish I usually take some fruits and vegetables with me:
apples, cucumbers, banana – packed in paper bags to prevent from rotting. Seasonal fruits and berries can be packed in a plastic jar. Cookies, couple of slices of whole grain bread are always with me. Quite often I take a yogurt drink or lassie for the child – notice if the weather is hot, it must be consumed within 2-3 hours.
The main principle is to have one main dish (in a hermetic container), some snacks (cookies, bread), fruits/vegetables (in a paper/plastic box) and water. It ensures well-balanced food for the day.
